About

Port Paws

Hi, I’m Michelle Blackman – head trainer and owner of Port Paws Dog Training, in Port Douglas.

I have always been a dog person. After fostering and owning dogs for the past 8 years, I decided to take my dog training skills one step further.

I am near completion of a Certificate III in Dog Training & Behaviour through the NDTF (National Dog Training Federation). This certification is the only nationally accredited certification for dog training in Australia.

On top of studies, I have travelled around Australia completing mentorship programs with well-established behaviour trainers.

I combine these skills with my love for dogs to create outcome focused dog training programs – not just about teaching commands but consider the whole dog and its well-being.

Holistic Dog Training

Port Douglas & Surrounds

At Port Paws we are strong believers in feeding the correct diet.  In our training sessions, we can provide advice for natural health and nutrition for your dogs.

We also support the community, promoting the health and well-being of dogs overall. Michelle volunteers on a weekly basis at the Cairns City Kennel club, where she teaches group classes to the public.

She is also currently training her own dog Koda, in agility training at the club. She hopes to be competing with him by next year.

Michelle also volunteers with local charity Paws and Claws in Port Douglas. Once completion of the new rescue centre is finished, she will be training the shelter dogs obedience and behaviour modifications in the hope of securing them a new home.

Michelle is also implementing a play scheme program to enrich the shelter dogs lives and set them up for success in their new homes.
